Causes of Teeth Grinding
Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is a surprisingly common problem among both children and adults although it is most prevalent in younger people. Depending on the underlying cause, bruxism may be treated by either a doctor or dentist or a combination of both. Physical causes of bruxism include:
- Misaligned teeth
- Jaw disorders
- Hyperactivity
Stress, anxiety and depression can also trigger cases of bruxism and these may necessitate a change of life style to combat the problem. Regardless of the cause, “grinding can wear down tooth enamel” which can in turn lead to serious dental issues in the future including sensitive teeth and cavities.
