It is not unusual to experience a dry mouth overnight. You can ask your dentist for tips on preventing a dry mouth during your regular dental check-up.

A few tips to prevent dry mouth:

  • Drink at least four to six cups of water each day to help stay hydrated during the day and overnight.
  • Reduce how much caffeine you drink and the amount of salty foods you eat in the evening as both can make you thirsty and increase the chance of feeling dehydrated.
  • Some medications can result in a dry mouth, but you will need to consult with your doctor or dentist to find the best solution.

"Drinking enough water during the day can help ensure you don’t get too dehydrated during the night and prevent you from having to consume a large amount of water before bed or during the night."
