Nail biting is not something that can be treated by the dentist but the dentist's chair is where many habitual nail-biters will end up because of the harm that can be done. Human nails are hard and constantly using the teeth to bite and chew on them is almost certainly bound to lead to such problems as:

  • Damaged tooth enamel
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Pain or discomfort in the jaws

Biting the nails can also significantly add to the amount of plaque in your oral cavity and increased levels of bacteria because of the foreign germs transferred from the fingernails to the mouth.
